Walsingham Planning helped Costa and Whitbread to pioneer coffee shops in the UK establishing the parameters of what could be achieved without needing planning permission and are still working to secure new units for Whitbread and many Costa franchisees.

Walsingham Planning have secured scores of coffee shops in provisional towns such as Hereford, Gloucester, Norwich, Bromley, Southampton, Truro, Beaconsfield, Grantham and Ipswich as well as the major urban centres of London, Birmingham, Manchester, Bristol, Glasgow and Edinburgh.

The major issue is usually to persuade a Council that change of use to a coffee shop can actually enhance the town centre, enriching the town centre retail experience and retaining customers to the benefit of other traders.
