Walsingham Planning secures University College London Student Accommodation Following Public Inquiry
The development involved the part demolition of a locally listed building adjacent to the Caledonian Road Underground Station, and the erection of a part 6 storey, part 8 storey and part 11 storey building to provide 350 student bed spaces together with ancillary facilities, new office floor space and ground floor commercial uses. The application was refused by the LPA on design, servicing and amenity grounds in April 2010, and Walsingham Planning Director Mark Krassowski was instructed by Mortar to pursue an appeal by way of Public Inquiry, and co-ordinate the appeal team, including instruction of Counsel.
A five day Public Inquiry was held in September/October 2010 with the appellant calling five witnesses including Mark Krassowski, who dealt with the planning background, policy issues and need for the student accommodation. The appeal was upheld and Walsingham Planning are now assisting Mortar Developments in the discharge of planning conditions to enable the development to open in September 2013.
The development has been pre-sold to University College London as student accommodation to fulfil an urgent need for more purpose built student places
