When is a sign not a sign? – Walsingham Planning know the answer even if the Council do not!
Keylining to commercial premises
When it’s a keyline strip is one answer. Action by the local planning authority at Saltaire to secure the removal of neon lighting from the Rosse PH saw Walsingham Planning in a dispute over what constitutes an advertisement.
The local planning authority would not accept that the key lining was not an advertisement, but Walsingham Planning were able to persuade the Inspectorate that neither they nor the LPA had jurisdiction over the lighting as it was outside of the definition in the Regulations.
This subsequently proved beneficial for other clients, including Pizza Hut and TGI Friday for whom Walsingham Planning were able to advise that the keyline red and blue outline around their buildings does not require consent and they have become a familiar design feature.
